The Importance of Wake Meandering on Wind Turbine Fatigue Loads in Wake

چکیده

Considering loads when optimizing wind-farm layouts or designing farm-control strategies is important, but the computational cost of using high-fidelity wake models in loop can be prohibitively high. Using simpler that consider only spatial variation turbulence statistics a tempting alternative, accuracy these with respect to aeroelastic response not well understood. This paper therefore highlights effect replacing meandering spatially varying (“profile functions”) inflow downstream turbine. Profile functions at different and lateral locations are extracted from large-eddy simulation an upstream turbine compared two lower-fidelity models: one prescribes both mean standard deviation mean. The NREL 5 MW wind simulated three wake-model fidelities, various quantities interest compared. values for power rotor speed medium-and low-fidelity model match well, fatigue varies greatly depending on load channel. Prescribing profile function beneficial tower-base fore-aft moment; all other DELs had similar accuracies medium- models. concludes blade estimated simple some accuracy, care should taken channels related shaft torsion bending moment.

Dynamic wind loads and wake characteristics of a wind turbine model in an atmospheric boundary layer wind

An experimental study was conducted to characterize the dynamic wind loads and evolution of the unsteady vortex and turbulent flow structures in the near wake of a horizontal axis wind turbine model placed in an atmospheric boundary layer wind tunnel. In addition to measuring dynamic wind loads (i.e., aerodynamic forces and bending moments) acting on the wind turbine model by using a high-sensi...

3D-simulation of the turbulent wake behind a wind turbine

The paper relates to the simulation of the airflow around a wind turbine (WT) of the type ENERCON E66 with emphasis on the turbulent wake. The simulations were undertaken with the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software ANSYS FLUENT 6.3 using the LES technique for turbulence modeling. It is the aim of the work to capture the full threedimensional turbulent flow behind a WT in a sufficient s...
